American Red Cross GuardStart is a program for youth that provides a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future successful completion of Lifeguarding courses. Learn about the causes and ways to prevent drowning and diving accidents, how to supervise others around the water, how to recognize when someone is in trouble, and how to provide basic-level first aid, CPR and AED. This class also instructs future lifeguards in the proper way to fill out job applications as well as taking them through the interview process while teaching them leadership characteristics and skills necessary to become a lifeguard, including effective communication, informed decision making, teamwork, and good customer service.

Note: This class helps bridge the gap between when most children finish swimming lessons, and when they can take lifeguarding class at age 15. Good for youth who babysit or have younger siblings that they may need to supervise around water. THIS IS NOT A LIFEGUARDING CERTIFICATION COURSE.
